Practice with feedback beats passive tutorials

Being tested on something strengthens memory far more than re-reading it — one of the most reliably replicated findings in cognitive science. A week after learning, students who kept being tested recalled about 80% of the material; those who kept re-reading it recalled about a third. The two groups' scores did not overlap at all. That is why we built practice, not video lessons.

Your child should not be getting everything right

Learning is strongest on work pitched just past what your child can already do. In a trial with 400 seven- and eight-year-olds across eleven schools, children whose exercises were chosen that way moved on to the harder problem types — 95% succeeded at them, against 75% on a fixed sequence written by teaching experts. The fixed sequence produced children who were better at the easiest exercise, because it kept them there. That is the difference our engine is built on.

Bloom's landmark finding: children tutored to mastery outperformed almost all of their conventionally taught peers. Doing that at scale is precisely what our engine is built for — we track mastery skill by skill, and move on only when a skill is genuinely consolidated.

Our engine draws on all of this research — but it is not a copy of any single study. We read these papers, then built something new: one system combining retrieval practice, difficulty calibration, mastery tracking and spaced review, designed for Singapore primary school children. Every figure above comes from a peer‑reviewed journal — independent experts checked it before publication — and we have cited the original papers, so you can look them up for yourself.

Is the content aligned to the Singapore syllabus?

Yes. Every question follows the Singapore Ministry of Education syllabus — the same curriculum behind Singapore's world-leading results in maths, science and reading — and every skill in the map carries its formal syllabus reference. Practice is paced to the school term, so what your child works on in March is what their class is covering in March. Questions are set in contexts Singapore children recognise: hawker centre orders, MRT journeys, HDB block numbers, prices in S$.

What do I actually see as a parent?

The Compass dashboard gives you a clear picture of your child's week and the specific topics worth a nudge, on every plan including free Spark — and once a month, a one-page note summarises progress in plain language. From Scholar you also get the full analytics: mastery trends over time, syllabus coverage by subject, weak-topic alerts, and the peer pacing guide. Champion adds a weekly coaching report on top.

Will the pace guide make my child anxious?

It is deliberately gentle, and it is shown to you, not to them. We indicate whether your child is ahead of, on, or building toward the pace of peers at the same level — as a guide, never a public ranking. There are no leaderboards to top, no streaks engineered to hook, and no ads.

Is my child's data used to train AI?

No, and nothing in Study-Wise sends your child's work to a language model. There is no AI chatbot in the app — the help widget matches your question against a fixed list of answers we wrote ourselves. The one AI service we use is text-to-speech, which reads a question aloud when your child taps the speaker in English or Chinese practice. It receives the question text from our own bank and nothing else: not your child's name, not their answers, not their scores. Their work is used to choose their next ten questions and to build your progress report. That is all.
