Privacy Policy
Effective 30 July 2026
1. Who we are
Study-Wise (“we”, “us”, “our”) is operated by StudyWise Pte. Ltd. (UEN 202623941H), a company incorporated in Singapore. We provide an adaptive learning platform for primary school children at study-wise.org.
Questions about this policy or your personal data can be directed to our data contact at admin@study-wise.org.
2. What personal data we collect
We collect the minimum data needed to run the service:
Account data (parent / guardian)
- Email address — used for sign-in, billing communications, and progress reports
- Password (hashed; we never store the plain-text version)
Child profile data
- Child’s first name or nickname (you choose what to enter)
- School level (e.g. P3, P5) — used to select age-appropriate content
- Chosen learning buddy
We do not collect a child’s date of birth, photograph, phone number, or school name.
Learning activity data
- Questions answered, answers given, and whether each was correct
- Time taken per question
- Mastery scores per skill topic (computed by our adaptive engine)
- A count of days practised, and experience points (XP) — used to award stickers and show progress. We never send a notification or reminder about a missed day.
This data is used solely to personalise practice and generate progress reports.
When your child taps the speaker to hear a question read aloud, the text of that question is sent to our speech provider (see Section 5) so it can be spoken. Nothing else goes with it — not your child’s name, their answers, or their scores.
Device data
To enforce the device limit included in each plan (2 devices per profile on Spark; 4 on Scholar and Champion, pooled across the account), we store a signed identifier for each browser registered to your account, along with a label you choose and the last time it was used. We do not log your IP address.
Billing data
Payment card details are processed and stored by Stripe. We store only your Stripe customer ID and subscription status — never your card number or CVV.
Email preferences
Whether you have opted in to coaching emails and monthly progress reports (per child profile). These preferences are off by default for coaching emails and on by default for progress reports.
3. How we collect it
We collect personal data in two ways:
- Directly — when you create an account, add a child profile, or update your preferences.
- Automatically — when a child uses the app, we record their answers and timing to power the adaptive engine.
We also record limited marketing-attribution data. When you follow one of our own campaign links — for example from an Instagram post — the link carries standard campaign tags (utm_source, utm_medium, utm_campaign and similar). We store these tags in a first-party cookie on your device for up to 30 days so we can understand which campaigns bring people to Study-Wise. This tells us the campaign, not who you are. The cookies we use are listed in Section 10.
On our public marketing pages we also use the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel to measure advertising performance. See Sections 5 and 10.
4. Why we collect it and the legal basis
| Purpose | Legal basis (PDPA) |
|---|---|
| Deliver personalised practice questions | Contract performance |
| Generate and display progress analytics | Contract performance |
| Send monthly progress report emails | Consent (opt-out available) |
| Send weekly coaching emails (Champion plan) | Consent (opt-in required) |
| Process subscription payments | Contract performance |
| Measure advertising and campaign performance | Deemed consent |
| Prevent fraud and abuse (e.g. duplicate free accounts) | Legitimate interest |
| Respond to your support requests | Contract performance |
| Comply with legal obligations | Legal obligation |
5. Who we share it with
We share data only with the service providers needed to operate Study-Wise. We do not sell your personal data. Where we use advertising-measurement tools (below), limited event data — such as the fact that a marketing page was viewed or a subscription started — is shared with that provider as described in Section 10.
| Provider | Purpose | Policy |
|---|---|---|
| Supabase | Database and authentication hosting | supabase.com/privacy |
| Stripe | Payment processing | stripe.com/privacy |
| Resend | Transactional and notification email delivery | resend.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| Meta Platforms Ireland | Advertising measurement (Meta Pixel) on marketing pages | facebook.com/privacy/policy |
| Vercel | Web hosting and content delivery | vercel.com/legal/privacy-policy |
| xAI | Text-to-speech — reads question text aloud on request (see Section 2) | x.ai/legal/privacy-policy |
All providers are required to handle personal data in accordance with applicable data protection laws. Supabase stores data in data centres outside Singapore; where data is transferred overseas, we rely on contractual protections.
6. Children's data
Study-Wise is designed for use by children aged 5–12 under the supervision and management of their parent or legal guardian. Accounts may only be created by adults (18 and over). Children do not create their own accounts.
A child’s data (name, level, and practice activity) is used exclusively to personalise their learning experience and to generate progress summaries for their parent. It is not used for advertising, profiling, or any purpose unrelated to education.
Advertising-measurement tools such as the Meta Pixel run only on our public marketing pages and the post-checkout confirmation page, which are intended for parents. They do not initialise on, and record no page views or events within, the child learning experience, and a child’s learning data is never shared with advertising platforms.
Parents can cancel a child's subscription from the account page (access continues until the end of the billing cycle; the profile is then removed). They can also close the whole account at any time. Deletion removes all associated learning data within 30 days.
Progress reports, summaries, certificates, and any other content we make available to you — whether shown in the app, downloaded, printed, or emailed — are provided for your personal use as the child’s parent or guardian. You may not redistribute, resell, republish, or share them with any third party, and downloadable or printable copies carry a watermark unique to your account. The full content licence and restrictions are set out in our Terms of Service.
7. How long we keep your data
| Data type | Retention period |
|---|---|
| Account and child profile data | While your account is active |
| Learning activity (attempts, mastery) | 3 years after last activity, or until account deletion |
| Progress reports | 3 years, or until account deletion |
| Payment records | 7 years (required by Singapore accounting law) |
| Deleted account data | Purged within 30 days of deletion request |
8. Your rights under the PDPA
Under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (Singapore), you have the right to:
- Access — request a copy of the personal data we hold about you or your child
- Correction — ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data
- Withdrawal of consent — opt out of non-essential communications at any time via your account settings or by contacting us
- Deletion — request that we delete your account and associated data
To exercise any of these rights, email us at admin@study-wise.org or use our contact form. We will respond within 10 business days. We may ask you to verify your identity before processing your request.
9. Data security
We take reasonable steps to protect personal data, including:
- HTTPS encryption for all data in transit
- Row-level security policies — each user can only access their own data
- Payment card details handled entirely by Stripe (PCI DSS compliant)
- Access to production systems limited to authorised personnel
No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure. In the event of a data breach affecting your personal data, we will notify you and the PDPC in accordance with our legal obligations.
10. Cookies and tracking
We use a small number of first-party cookies:
- Dark-mode preference — remembers your light or dark theme. Contains no personal information.
- Marketing attribution (sw_utm) — set only if you arrive through one of our campaign links. It stores the campaign tags from that link (for example utm_source=instagram) for up to 30 days, so we can attribute sign-ups to the campaign that referred them. It does not identify you personally.
On our public marketing pages, and on the confirmation page shown after checkout, we load the Meta (Facebook/Instagram) Pixel. It sets third-party cookies that Meta uses to measure how our advertising performs — for example, that a visit or a subscription followed one of our ads. It runs only on those parent-facing pages, never in the child learning experience (see Section 6), and we do not load it at all for visitors located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom or Switzerland.
You can prevent or remove these cookies at any time using your browser’s cookie and tracking-protection settings, and you can manage how Meta personalises ads to you in your Facebook or Instagram account settings. Blocking them does not affect your use of Study-Wise. To ask us about this or to raise a concern, contact us using the details in Section 12.
We do not use fingerprinting, and we do not use third-party analytics SDKs such as Google Analytics.
Our progress report and coaching emails include a small tracking pixel and tracked links so we can tell whether an email was opened and its links clicked. This is first-party and cookieless — we use it only to measure engagement and improve our emails, never for advertising or profiling. Opting out of an email type in your account settings stops both the emails and their tracking.
11. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you by email and update the effective date above. Continued use of Study-Wise after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
